Taichi Chuan - Taiji quan

Taichi real

One must distinguish the pure from the motley. Many practice taiji nowadays but it is not the real taiji. The real has a different taste, and is easily distinguished. With real taiji, your arm is like iron wrapped with cotton. It is soft and yet feels heavy to someone trying to support it. You can feel this in push-hands practice. When you touch an opponent, your hands are soft and light but he cannot get rid of them. When you attack, it is like a bullet penetrating cleanly and sharply (gan cui), yet without using any force.

My favorite Ben story of all time is what he told us once during a break at the rundown Mission Street studio he held for a few years in the 90’s. He was talking about his recent trip to Israel, where he’d done some big seminar. He said there was a professor of dance in attendance, an older woman, said to be famous in her field, accompanied by her young female grad student.

La grandeza del Chi

It is said that those who cultivate the greatness of the Chi can travel without encountering a tiger or a wild buffalo, in battle no weapon can penetrate their armor.

I dare not be the aggressor but rather the defender, to wield a weapon but not clash with the enemy. Swords must not make noise.

We dont use the sword as an acyual sel defense anymore, but the value of the sword is that it is the «physical counterpart of the spiritual teaching of the Dao».

When practicing the form, the entire body feels comfortable; when pushing hands, the entire body feels lively. Therefore, after a long period of constant practice one not only avoids being tired, but actually feels more spirited after doing Tai Chi Chuan. This indicates great intensity of delight. However, beginners, who have not yet grasped the fundamentals, must go through a period of forbearance. Then, eventually, they will spontaneously enter the most enjoyable stages.

Verdadero Taijiquan

In the world, there are a lot of people who practice Taijiquan. You have to know how to separate true from false. As a true Taijiquan, one’s arms seem to be like iron rods wrapped with cotton. You may feel they are soft outside, but quite heavy, and you can feel this in pushing hands. When the true Taiji practitioner use Na on you, you may feel the touch is very light, but you cannot resist with force. Issuing energy (Fa Jin) toward the opponent is as quick as a bullet shot from a gun, without requiring any strenuous effort.

Los estudiantes abandonan lo inmediato

Students give up the immediate to seek the exotic; they don't understand the sheer marvelous function of the chi accumulating in the tan tien. The chi is just like wind, water and clouds. They each can store up power as the universe itself stores up the primal chi.

Cheng Tzu's Thirteen Treatises on T'ai Chi Ch'uan

Originally the thirteen movements of Tai Chi Chuan are the guiding methods of “chi”. Guiding means leading the circulation of “chi” and blood. Therefore, when you do a good job of guiding, the “chi” and the blood will have a good balance. All sickness will be gone, but don’t misunderstand the method, and try very hard to obtain that balance. If you practice hard and naturally, you will get it when you reach maturity (when the time comes).

Respira con naturalidad

Breathe naturally, do not force your breath deeply. After many times of practice, your Tai Chi Chuan will reach the natural point. By that time, the breath will be balanced automatically
